I remember hearing *somewhere* that as real estate agents you should be "the local celebrity" in your market. Okay, you've heard it everywhere (admit it). Now, I challenge you even further to achieve Internet Fame.
Internet Fame is not as difficult as you might think, but it won't just happen to you without some honest effort on your part.
The first and most important thing - LISTEN. Get on LinkedIn, Facebook, Plaxo, Twitter, FriendFeed, Active Rain, etc and see what folks are talking about online. Start following people and listening to the conversation. Build out your profiles on these sites and start making connections. Not down with these sites? Find your own! There are loads of social networking sites online to accommodate every interest.
Next, you will have to bring VALUE. What will you contribute to the conversation - real estate information? homeowner tips? helpful sites? interesting reads? comic relief? Find a healthy mix that works for you and bring it. Get active on Trulia and Zillow and interact with other agents and consumers.
Be CONSISTENT. This is by far the hardest part ... trust me. This is only my second blog post in July. Second! I had 24 in May!!! Once you get started, don't stop, don't leave me hanging :)
The last thing I would recommend is probably the simplest - READ. Check out Technorati and Regator for what is percolating in the blogosphere. Search by keywords - real estate, mortgage, etc and then tag your favorite posts and blogs. Get on Twittorati for a breakdown of the Twittersphere.
Don't just be the local celebrity - achieve Internet Fame!
