You've heard me say it before - all business is social. We can't sell without SOME social interaction. As more and more folks get on board with social networking, I think it's important to point out a a few key things ... especially with regard to your Facebook status updates.
1. Do not make every status update or link post about your business. This is especially true for Facebook. I want you to be that "gentle reminder" not the annoying real estate agent that is always listing a house, sharing a virtual tour link, creating a vflyer, sitting an open house, etc. Be social please. Posting an update that you are going to the movies, walking the dog or watching the game are all social enough to make your connections feel that meaningful interaction that we are going for and not so intimate that you will feel exposed. Make that meaningful connection with your sphere of influence - share important updates, both social and business.
2. Have a few photos posted of you (not your business card pic only) and your family/friends. Remember that you are only "connecting" with people that you already know for the most part. Along the same lines, consider locking down your profile so only people that you are connected with can see your information. For how to do this, refer to: http://edu2dot0.blogspot.com/search/label/Facebook%20Privacy
3. Get social. When one of your friends has a birthday, write them a little note or post on their wall. Review the last movie you saw or book you read. Join a few groups. Become a fan of your favorite sports team or band. Chat with your online friends. Most importantly, interact with others and be social.
Have a great Wednesday!
